Tombo Dojo

Tombo Dojo is a Bujinkan dojo in Worthington, Ohio. We teach traditional Japanese martial arts from nine classical Japanese systems as passed down through Soke Masaaki Hatsumi. Our classes emphasize natural movement, tactical adaptability, and the development of fudoshin (immovable heart).

We teach unarmed techniques (taijutsu) and various weapons including the sword, staff, shuriken, and weighted chain, along with the principles that connect them. Our approach emphasizes adaptability over rigid forms, enabling the development of effective self-defense responses that work under pressure. Classes are taught by licensed Bujinkan instructors Justin Root and John Phillips.

Prospective students are encouraged to first observe a class (by appointment) to see our approach to training, ask questions, and ensures that the training environment remains safe and focused for everyone.
