Training then focuses on techniques from the curriculum (throws, strikes, locks, escapes) explored through kata (structured forms) and henka (variations). As understanding develops, we introduce weapons and more complex scenarios.

Our emphasis is on natural movement and practical application, not rote memorization of techniques. Click here to get started!

What to Expect

What Happens in Class

What Happens in Class

Early training builds foundation: how to fall safely, basic strikes, blocks, evasion, and understanding distance and timing. This isn't flashy but it's essential. As you progress, the work becomes more fluid and adaptive. Expect to be challenged physically and mentally. Expect to be uncomfortable sometimes; that's where growth happens.

First month: basics, learning to move, getting used to contact. First year: developing competence in core techniques, beginning weapons work, understanding principles that make techniques work.
